Why is Tumut so cheap compared to the other towns of the Snowy Mountains? Tumut can only provide access to the Mt. Selwyn Ski Resort (1hr). It would not be possible to stay in Tumut and Ski on the main range (Perisher or Thredbo). We don't see the high volume of tourists that a town like Cooma does, in Tumut we don't raise our prices over the winter season. If you want to ski at Mt. Selwyn and keep your cost down then Tumut is perfect.
Tumut is a vibrant little town with many places to eat and drink. We have 6 Pubs, 3 Clubs (RSL, Golf and Bowling), Many Takeaway and Coffee shops.
There is a ski gear hire business in Tumut, they can hire you all the gear you need. You could collect gear the night before or early in the morning before you hit the slopes. You can also hire at Mt. Selwyn.
